Dr. Guido Torrioli is a permanent researcher at the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology, CNR. He graduated in physics at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1985. Since then his work has been mainly focused on the development and reading of SQUID devices for several experiments, such as the MQC experiment, for the detection of macroscopic quantum coherence with SQUID, the ROG experiment, for the detection of gravitational waves. He contributed to the development of superconducting  hot  spot  microbolometers  for  the  THz  radiation  and  the  relative  electronics readout. In 2010 he participated in the XXVI PNRA expedition to Antarctica where he contributed to the realization of the “first light” of the COCHISE telescope in Concordia station. Since 2012 he is involved in the development of the readout electronics for MEMS gyroscopes which are designed and fabricated in his institute.  Since 2006 he collaborates with the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) for the development of SQUID based systems for the readout of TES devices used in astrophysical observations. In this context, he has participated in several projects including some funded by ASI or ESA. At present he is a member of the Italian consortium involved in the fabrication of the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) instrument proposed for the Athena X-ray Observatory, the second large mission of the ESA science program to be launched in the 2030’s.
