VARAS Stefano was born in Rovereto (TN) on 03-12-1979. He obtained the industrial high school diploma in electronics and telecommunications in 1998 at the ITI in Rovereto (TN).
From February 2002 to January 2007, he works in the technical support team in electronic and ICT at the INFM-TASC National Laboratory in Basovizza (TS), Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste.
From February 2007 to February 2009, he works as a hardware and software developer at ETH LAB in Pergine Valsugana (TN), Eurotech group.
From April 2009 to August 2010, he works in the technical support team as coordinator of the activity in electronics and ICT on the Synchrotron beamline, at the CNR-IOM in Basovizza (TS), Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste.
From September 2010 to today, he has been working as a technician in the research activities of the Laboratory for Characterization and the Development of Materials for Photonics and Optoelectronics (CSMFO), at the CNR-IFN in Trento.
Stefano Varas main scientific interests concern Glass Photonics: properties, structure and processing techniques of glass, crystals and films for optical and photonic applications; integrated optics, nanocomposite materials and confined structures including photonic crystals, waveguides, and microresonators; optical planar waveguides obtained by rf-sputtering techniques activated with rare earth ions (local structure, crystallization, energy transfer processes, optical and spectroscopic properties).
Member of the organizing committee of International Conferences MINAP2012, ICTON2016, EAGLES2016, PRE’17, D-Photon2018, ICTON2020. He is co-author of publications in international journals.
