Gianluca Galzerano received the Laurea (university degree) in Electronics Engineering (optoelectronics specialization) in July 1994 from Politecnico di Milano and the Ph.D. in Metrology in February 1999 from the Politecnico di Torino. Since December 2001 he is a staff researcher (from 2006 to 2022 Senior researcher and since 2023 research Director) at the Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnology of the Italian National Research Council (IFN – CNR) and an adjunct professor at the Politecnico di Milano (Physics Department), where he taught experimental physics at the Faculty of Engineering and Optical frequency measurements at the PhD school. From April 2010 to November 2013, he was acting Director of the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology of the National Research Council.

His research activity is focused on the development of solid-state lasers and amplifiers, based on innovative materials and techniques, widely tunable in the near and mid-infrared spectral region (from 1 µm to 5 µm), synthesis of optical frequency combs in the near/mid-infrared and THz spectral regions, novel broad-band direct comb spectroscopy and hyper-spectral imaging methods, frequency metrology and precision measurements. He is author of more than 130 publications on major international journals in the field of laser physics, optics and photonics technologies.
